Thank you for visiting the site of KJ Welch.
KJ Welch is a local performer based in West Sussex playing at bars, clubs, weddings, festivals and events all over the south coast. His distinctive voice and passionate delivery makes for a captivating performance, gaining him immense respect as an artist within the area.
BIOGRAPHY
Following a childhood heavily influenced by music (KJ's father was bass player for 70's musicain Roger Whittaker and heavily involved in the early days of christian band Delerious) KJ played his first open mic night in 2002 and very soon after, that year, started his 1st successful band RustyCab.
RustyCab consisted of KJ on lead vocals and acoustic guitar (as you will still find him today), a lead guitarist, drummer (Dan Todd) and bass player (Rob Todd). The band was very successful in Sussex and Hampshire, playing weekly at bars and clubs but most memorably at festivals. The band performed at Green Belt in 2003 (on stage2 following the beautiful Jamelia) and later the next year at Madstock. Unfortuantly, however, RustyCab as a concept dissolved after the lead guitarist left the band, but never to be fased by adversity - the band immediatly reformed as KJ Welch and the T's (KJ has always been passionate about working with Dan and Rob Todd, who he believes to be two of the best live musicians in the area). The band continued to go from strength to strength, and with an ever growing following the band gained attension from larger local events including local festivals (Midhurst Festival 2008) and Polo events (Cowdray Polo Club).
In July 2008 KJ Welch and The T's began working with Mike Fry (a local Chichester musican and producer) and involving his immense technical and musical experience within the band to improve their sound and complete their band, back to the 4 peice that they knew had worked so well.
In a very short time (a mere 4 months) the band evolved more than they could have imagined. Mike had the idea of giving the band a new name, involving a female singer (the beautiful Charlotte Woodman) and turning the band into a function band. The band started work immediatly, and are now touring from London to Hampshire along to East Sussex. You can find the band, 'The Wah Wahs', at many events locally - they can also be booked for weddings, events, festivals, etc.
TODAY
Today as always you would find KJ in his beautiful home in Arundel, writing for his album, or honing down the lastest cover track he has found, to make it his own. Despite his comittment to 'The Wah Wah's', KJ's main focus is and always has been to complete an album of origianal material, recorded to the best possible standard, acknowledged by top UK radio stations and distributed across the UK.
KJ's own work as a solo performer, finds him in bars, clubs, restaurants and functions - doing what he does best..just him and his guitar. He has a style that combines a multitude of musical influences but his sound is heavily Indie influenced, and artists including Damien Rice, Snow Patrol, Bill Withers, Coldplay, Bob Dylan and Radiohead are regulars in his set list. Dependant on the requirements of his venue, KJ regularly invites guest artists on stage with him, be that, bass players, drummers and even harpists.
KJ's own material is as distinctive as his covers, beautiful writing performed with passion and of course that amazingly original voice.
Superhero is KJ's best known song, written during his volunteering travels to Sri Lanka, it has a deeper significance to KJ. His fans and new listeners alike love this track, and whether rocked up with a 6 peice band, or taken back to basics with that raw voice and an acoustic guitar its sure to gain attension. This song alone demonstrates KJ's ability as a writer, musician and performer; adapting his music to his audience, venue and situation.
